Supervision - a Necessary Evil or a Vital Ingredient? Making the Most of Your Supervision

Supervision - a Necessary Evil or a Vital Ingredient? Making the Most of Your Supervision

What is this event about?

Supervision is one of our hot topics this year and we are delighted to welcome Dr Alison Hodge to talk about this important subject.

What will it cover?

Supervision is now recognised as a mandatory element by many of the coaching associations to meet accreditation requirements.  However, some coaches may feel doubtful, fearful, and possibly resist engaging in supervision for what may seem extremely valid reasons.  Equally, some coaches may be working with a supervisor and be wondering whether they are getting the most from this relationship and forum.
In this interactive workshop, we will explore the scope of coaching supervision and thus whether it is a necessary evil or in fact, a vital ingredient in our well-being as professional coaches.  In considering this question, we can debunk some of the myths that exist around supervision.  We will look at the challenges and demands that coaching may generate as we work alone in one-to-one client relationships and consider how the process of a generative dialogue with a qualified “other” (supervisor) can help to keep us fit for practice.  At the same time, we can also explore what other activities can support our well-being to enable us to provide the best service possible to our clients.

Who should attend?

This event is suitable for all levels of coaching experience.

Who will present?

Dr Alison Hodge is an accredited Executive Coach at Master Practitioner level with EMCC and an accredited Executive Coaching Supervisor with APECS.  She works globally as a coaching supervisor with individuals and groups of both internal and external executive coaches.  She teaches on the MSc in Coaching & Mentoring at Sheffield Hallam University and is a member of faculty and supervises supervisors-in-training with CSA (Coaching Supervision Academy).  She graduated with her DProf in Coaching Supervision at Middlesex University in July 2014.

She has a particular interest in the relational phenomena that occur in supervision and how this can inform the supervisee about their own process with their client relationships as well as what may be occurring in their individual and organizational client systems.
